Origin It is the dried ripe fruit of Anise Illicium verum Hook.f., family Magnoliaceae.
Function and treatment Warming Yang and dispersing cold, regulating Qi and relieving pain. Used for cold hernia and abdominal pain, kidney deficiency and lumbago, stomach cold and vomiting, and cold pain in the abdomen.
Origin and best harvesting period The main production area of star anise is in Guangxi. There are two types of star anise: spring fruit and autumn fruit, with spring fruit usually accounting for only 20% of the annual production and autumn fruit accounting for 80%. The spring fruit matures in March to April every year, while the autumn fruit matures in September to October. The fruit can be harvested when it turns from green to yellow.
