Origin Dried leaves of lotus Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn. in the water lily family.
Function and treatment Clearing summer heat and dampness, promoting clearing of Yang, cooling the blood and stopping bleeding. Used for summer heat and thirst, summer dampness and diarrhea, spleen deficiency and diarrhea, blood fever and epistaxis, blood in the stool and leakage. Lotus leaf charcoal is used to stop bleeding by astringency and stasis. Used for bleeding disorders and postpartum hemorrhage.
Origin and best harvesting period Lotus leaves are produced in all parts of China, including Hunan, Hubei, Fujian, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Jiangxi. The harvesting period is generally in summer and autumn, and the petiole is removed from June to September before the flowers open, and then dried in the sun until it is 70% to 80% dry, folded in half, and dried in the sun.
