Origin The dried mature seeds of lotus Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn. in the water lily family.
Function and treatment Tonifying the spleen and stopping diarrhea, stopping banding, benefiting the kidney and astringent essence, nourishing the heart and tranquilizing the mind. Used for deficiency of spleen and diarrhea, diarrhea of the belt, seminal emission, palpitation and insomnia.
Origin and best harvesting period Lotus seeds are produced in Hunan, Hubei, Fujian, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Jiangxi. Fresh lotus seeds usually begin to ripen in July and August, and are picked around the middle of July, directly from inside the lotus seeds.
