Origin This product is the dried fleshy stem with scaly leaves of Cistanche deserticoLa Y.C. Ma or Cistanche tubulosa (Schenk) Wight, family Lietanaceae.
Function and treatment Tonifying kidney yang, benefiting essence and blood, moistening the intestines and relieving constipation. For deficiency of kidney yang, deficiency of essence and blood, impotence and infertility, soreness of the waist and knees, weakness of the muscles and bones, dryness and constipation of the intestines.
Origin and best harvesting period Mainly produced in Inner Mongolia (Azorqi), Gansu (Changma) and Xinjiang. Harvest in spring when the seedlings first emerge from the soil or in autumn before the tundra freezes, remove the stem tips. Cut into sections and dried in the sun.
