Origin This product is the dried root of Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch.) Bge. var. mongholicus (Bge.) Hsiao or Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch.) Bge. of the legume family.
Function and treatment Tonifying Qi and raising Yang, consolidating the surface and stopping sweating, inducing diuresis and subduing swelling, nourishing the blood, promoting stagnation and clearing paralysis, promoting toxicity and expelling pus, and astringing sores and producing muscle. It is used for deficiency of qi and weakness, loose stools with little food, sinking middle qi, prolonged diarrhea and prolapse of anus, blood in the stool and leakage of blood from the collapse, deficiency of the surface and spontaneous sweating, oedema due to deficiency of qi, internal heat and thirst, deficiency of blood and yellowing, hemiplegia, paralysis and numbness, carbuncles and gangrene that are difficult to ulcerate and do not converge for a long time.
Origin and best harvesting period Astragalus is produced in Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Gansu and the north-east of China. Astragalus and Kulun Astragalus are produced in Inner Mongolia, and many of the roots of Astragalus in the Central Plains are extended from the roots of Astragalus in Inner Mongolia.
