Origin	This product is the dried mature seeds of ZiziphusjujubaMill. var. spinosa (Bunge) HuexH.F. Chou, family Rhamnaceae.
Function and treatment	Nourishing the heart and nourishing the liver, calming the mind and tranquilizing the spirit, astringing sweat and promoting the production of body fluid. Indicated for sleeplessness, palpitation and dreaminess, body weakness and excessive sweating, and thirst due to injury of fluid.
Origin and best harvesting period	Sour dates are mainly produced in Hebei, Shaanxi, Liaoning and Henan, but are also produced in Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Shanxi, Shandong, Anhui and Jiangsu. The fruit is harvested in the autumn when it is ripe, usually between September and October, and is best when the grains are large and full and the seeds are yellow and white.
