Description Alpha-copaene, also known as copaene, is a member of the class of compounds known as sesquiterpenoids. Sesquiterpenoids are terpenes with three consecutive isoprene units. Alpha-copaene is a spice and woody tasting compound and can be found in a number of food items such as lime, mandarin orange (clementine, tangerine), safflower, and summer savory, which makes alpha-copaene a potential biomarker for the consumption of these food products. Alpha-copaene can be found primarily in feces and saliva.
